Egan was born in a large city to poor parents. He speaks little of his past and not at all of his childhood. He went to work for a large, rather powerful, crime syndicate when he was fairly young. One of the (at the time) lieutenants took an almost fatherly liking to him and took young Egan under his wing. Both of them advanced through the ranks, Egan's mentor coming to be the one in command of their region and Egan swiftly became one of the few top lieutenants due to his skill in both arms and explosives.

Years passed and eventually Egan's secret ability leaked out. The bosses of the syndicate wanted to use his abilities for their own means. Although he had no qualms about killing people by guns or explosives, Egan balked at using his ability to do so.

To escape the syndicate, he faked his own death...killing many of those he had once worked with in the process.

The syndicate knew him, though, and when they didn't find a body recognizable as his in the smoldering rubble, only one more than those that they'd sent in, which was burned beyond recognition, they continued hunting him. One night while he was trying to keep one step ahead of them, a man he knew named Shane offered him a way out...

Deciding to take a chance, Egan took the money, clothes, travel tickets, and other supplies provided and went to the destination specified to meet these people who just wanted to 'talk'.
